About this vintage design furniture

Delightful Arts and Crafts style oak dressing table and desk made in England. This piece features a base on which rises a circular frameless mirror supported by a carved wooden stand with floral decorations. It features two registers, i.e. two drawers with two handles each, perfect for storage. The piece rests on four sober, elegant legs that taper at the base, giving it a more stylized appearance. On each side are two decorative candlesticks. About Gomme Furniture Wycombe: Founded in 1898 by Ebenzer Gomme, Gomme Furniture Wycombre began by making chairs. The company soon continued to grow and expand into all types of furniture, and by 1911 included all types of tables, cabinets and closets in its catalog. In fact, Gomme is considered one of the driving forces behind modern living room furniture in kit form, i.e. all the furniture in a dining room designed as a set and marketed as a set of parts including chairs, table, and sometimes closets and cupboards. The brand's founder died in 1931, leaving a legacy of a company that employed almost 800 people. During the Second World War, the company was involved in the manufacture of aircraft frames. In the 1950s, Donald Gomme, a close associate of the founder, launched the G-Plan, a collection of modern furniture, sold by the piece according to the customer's budget, which revolutionized the furniture market through its practicality and ease of marketing to the general public. In 1989, the brand was sold to the Hillsdown Group, which continued the business until it was bought by the Morris Furniture Group. Today, they continue to manufacture furniture and have founded the Wycombe Museum, an organization dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of the town's furniture and art collections, which is very rich in Gomme Furniture pieces.
