Pair of vintage "Bow Wood" chairs in solid ash by Hugues Steiner, France 1950

Pair of chairs from the "Bow Wood" collection by Steiner Paris - Noisy Le Grand. Hugues Steiner (1926-1991) was a French designer who was twice deported, then finally survived the Holocaust, and is renowned for his collections inspired by organic forms and nature. Throughout his life, he campaigned - sometimes alongside Simone Veil - for peace and against all forms of racism. These chairs, featuring a bent solid ash frame with stainless steel ring, are upholstered in a grenadine-colored studded imitation leather. The seat, also original, is mounted on trapezoidal springs for suppleness and comfort.
