Product description
Belgium / 1960s / Coffee Table / Pia Manu / Metal, Stone, Chrome / Mid-Century / Vintage / Brutalist
Rare and unique rectangular handmade brutalist coffee table made by Pia Manu, Belgium, 1960. Signed Pia Manu on a side of the tabletop.
The tabletop is made of Brazilian slate stone with subtle tones of black and grey with an oily blue and green shine. In the middle of the top, we find a decorative yet abstract sculpture in tin metal. The base is made of sturdy solid steel with a nice patina adding to the overall brutal look and feel of this table. The table has a very brutalist look contrasting with the slate stone's subtle sparkle. A true piece of craftsmanship with a perfect balance between form, function, and art.
Pia Manu is a workshop from Ingelmunster, Belgium. Here, amongst others, Jules Dewaele and his son Koen Dewaele designed several design pieces during the 1960s. Pia Manu is still working along similar lines, with natural materials such as stone and travertine combined with ceramics.
Normal small wear marks.
