Product description
A magnificent and iconic Scandinavian suspension lamp called "Charlottenborg". Poul Henningsen's intention with this 4-shade pendant, as he called it when it was created in 1931, was to create a luminaire that could be mounted high and become an alternative to the chandeliers so commonly used in domestic lighting. The major difference between the 4-shade luminaire and the 3-shade luminaire is the ability of the 4-shade luminaire to provide more light for walls. However, the suspension lamp didn't become a big success until 1979. In fact, it was dropped from Louis Poulsen's standard product range during the 1940s and was redesigned in 1979 in a larger version by two Danish architects, Sophus Frandsen and Ebbe Christensen, for the Charlottenborg exhibition hall in Copenhagen.
