Description:
A very large vintage Fat Lava floor vase from West Germany. This vase was designed and produced by Carstens Tonnieshof, more about them later. The vase has a beautiful glaze where it drips down and also has a lot of texture. This is very reminiscent of dripping lava especially with its deep orange color. That is why this is called a Fat Lava vase. Originating from the 60s/70s also makes this very appropriate. The vase is marked and numbered on the bottom. The inside of the vase is also glazed so water can be put in here. In short, a beautiful piece of West Germany ceramics for the enthusiast.
About Carstens:
Carstens (1945-1987).
After losing most of their factories to the GDR, brothers Christian and Ernst Carstens established a new factory. The Carstens Tonnieshof factory located in Freden an der Leine (West Germany). Then they turned into VEB Haldensleben where they went on to produce in many countries such as Switzerland, Chile, Argentina and Australia in the 1960s. Highly necessary, as production had by now risen to 10,000 per day. The designers of these beautiful pieces were Trude Carstens (wife of Ernst Carstens), as well as Heinz Siery, Gerda Heuckeroth and Dieter Peter.
