Beautiful and authentic bakelite suspension lamp with rounded curves by LBL, Kandem, an unusual model. High-quality black bakelite for the top of the lamp, brown speckled bakelite shade. Fitted with original protection grid. Very good condition, quality finish, in working order, Bulb type: E27 for powerful lighting up to 300 watts. Ideal for industrial, vintage or retro decor. VEB Leuchtenbau Leipzig, LBL was founded in 1889 by Max Körting (1862-1948) and Wilhelm Mathiesen (1859-1936) as Körting & Mathiesen AG, a manufacturer of arc lamps (carbon arc lighting for street lighting). It was one of the first lighting manufacturers in Germany. In 1914, "Kandem" is chosen as the brand name and the first is produced. The first contract for the artistic design of lighting fixtures was commissioned in February 1928 by Professor Moholy-Nagy, head of the metalworking workshop at the Bauhaus. The company's first "design classics" were the desk lamps designed by Marianne Brandt (1893-1983) and Hin Bredendieck (1904-1995) in 1928, the year Brandt became head of the metalworking workshop at Bauhaus.In the Bauhaus metal workshop, Brandt worked with Christian Dell, Hans Przyrembel and Wilhelm Wagenfeld. Kandem sold 50,000 lamps in just a few years.
