About this vintage design furniture

A rare square version of the Africa dining table by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Maxalto, as part of the Artona series. This table will ideally be combined with the matching Africa dining chairs, or with 121 or Monk chairs from the same designers. The square version of this table is indeed a rarity, as most of these tables are either round or oval. The table consists of a walnut frame that is accentuated by ebony accents. The top consists of red burl wood with walnut wood on the contours, again ornamented with ebony accents. The design stems from 1975 and production was done by Maxalto, a specialty division of B&B Italia. The table has a strong stance, and clearly with influences from colonial art. The table features the typical concrete counterweight, in original condition and with Maxalto markings present. The provenance of this table is certified by the following source; Giuliana & Gramigna, 1950/1980 Repertorio, Mailand 1985, Abb. S. 416. The table is in absolute exceptional condition, with only minimal wear. Reference : 246356
