Pair of vintage aluminum and leather office chairs by Eero Aarnio for Mobel Italia, Italy 1960

Pair of Executive armchairs in black leather and polished aluminum designed by renowned Finnish designer Eero Aarnio. This elegant and stylish pair was produced by Mobel Italia, Italy in the 1960s. Both chairs are in excellent condition and can be used perfectly as is. One of them has some cracks in the leather of the armrests as can be seen in the pictures. Height: 73 cm (28.75 in.)Width: 66 cm (25.99 in.)Depth: 48 cm (18.9 in.)Seat height: 45 cm (17.72 in.)Eero Aarnio (born July 21, 1932 in Helsinki) is a Finnish interior designer, known for his innovative furniture designs in the 1960s, such as his plastic and fiberglass chairs. Aarnio studied at the Helsinki Institute of Industrial Arts and opened his own office in 1962. The following year he presented his Ball Chair, a hollow sphere on a stand, open on one side to allow a person to sit in it. The Ball Chair was presented to the international public at the Asko stand at the Cologne Furniture Fair in 1966. The similar Bubble Chair was transparent and suspended from above. Other innovative creations include the Pastil Chair (a molded chair resembling a footstool) and the Tomato Chair (a seat molded between three supporting spheres). His Screw Table, as the name suggests, had the appearance of a flat-headed screw driven into the floor. He received the American Industrial Design Award in 1968. Aarnio's designs were an important aspect of 1960s popular culture, and could often be seen in the sets of science fiction films of the time. Because his designs used very simple geometric shapes, they were ideal for these productions. Eero Aarnio continues to create new designs, including toys and furniture for children.
