About this vintage design furniture

As a sculptor, Paul Kingma has made a number of works for public spaces. He became best known as a mosaic artist with his heavy Kingma tables, which he launched in the late 1960s. Out of admiration for the life and history of the earth, he made tables with natural stones and materials he collected from around the world. Later, he made tables with fossils and petrified wood, "an independent design that can then be used as a table".In 1961, Paul Kingma was appointed the first director of the Institute of Visual Expression in Amersfoort and taught mosaic classes there for five years. His first marriage ended. In 1978, he met Elisabeth Bakker and married her.Kingma lived and worked in The Hague, Kortenhoef, Amsterdam, London, Amersfoort (circa 1961), Epe (from 1966), Amerongen (1984-1990) and finally in Pingjum, an artists' village in the north of the Netherlands. He died there in 2013, at the age of 81.This rectangular coffee table in natural stone is very well preserved. It also bears Kingma's signature. It rests on a metal foot in two parts. Good condition consistent with age and use.
