About this vintage design furniture

Pair of Danish Mid-Century Armchairs Reupholstered in White by Ludvig PontoppidanVery rare set of two elegantly curved armchairs designed and produced by Danish master craftsman Ludvig Pontoppidan. When it comes to Danish master craftsmen, few, if any, are better than Ludvig Pontoppidan. Working with some of the "star" designers of Danish modernity, such as Nanna Ditzel, Borge Mogensen, Finn Juhl, Ejner Larsen and Aksel Bender Madsen, Pontoppidan created some of the finest pieces of the era. He was not only a master builder, but also a gifted designer.Following in his father's footsteps, Pontoppidan acquired his skills in the tradition of the long-standing Danish cabinetmaker's guild, where he apprenticed for several years, and while he was quite well known in his native country, he was not really known abroad. However, in 1960, Ludvig Pontoppidan, along with several other prominent Danish designers and builders, participated in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's New York exhibition The Arts of Denmark, which proved to be a groundbreaking showcase for many Danish designers, including Pontoppidan. The Arts of Denmark exhibition is often cited as having been pivotal in introducing modern Danish design to the American market.Masterfully executed, Pontoppidan's pieces are beautiful extensions of the designer's vision, a bodily testament to the quality and refinement that is so often lacking today.
