Product description
Minimal Bossche School, Shelves, plastic number, architect, Jan de Jong, original condition, The Netherlands, 1970s An early example of the furniture designed by the Benedictine monkarchitect Dom Hans van der Laan. Provenance private collector Oirschot History of the house: The 17th-century village house with a transverse wolf roof is a national monument, with residents dating back to about 1650. In the early 19th century, the house was divided, resulting in 3 separate residential units. During the extensive restoration in 1970, they were combined into one with the current layout. The large fireplaces in each room (5 rooms before 1970, 3 of which were restored) create an atypical layout and justify the hypothesis that the house housed several canons, each with their own room at their disposal. The location near the church and on the so-called Kanunnikensteeg are also arguments in this direction. The renovation at the beginning of the 1970's was done by the architect of the Bossche school: Louis de Kok. The colors were chosen on site by Wim Hooft. The furniture was purchased from the workshop of Jan de Jong. During the reconstruction period after World War II, the Dutch architect Jan de Jong and Dom Hans van der Laan collaborated on several architectural projects, including the interior furniture. They created an exceptional body of work that defines the style of the Bossche School. Jan de Jong was able to translate many of Dom v.d.Laan's idealized concepts and ideas into pioneering buildings and spaces. However, they worked so closely together that it is difficult to discern the level of individual contribution to the furniture they designed. Artist Wim van Hoof worked with both architects, proposing different color schemes for their projects. The original olive green surface visible on these tables is from one of these schemes.
