About this vintage design furniture
Prouvé & Leleu, reclining deckchairs, for the Sanatorium Martel de Janville, 1937, France. Manufactured by Ateliers Jean Prouvé. Painted steel, oak, in original condition. Built in 1937 by Pol Abraham and Henry Jacques Le Even, the Martel de Janville is the last sanatorium built on the Plateau d'Assy. A real reinforced concrete liner, it belongs to the so-called "compact" group. This building, formerly reserved for officers and non-commissioned officers of the army, integrates all the services in a single "T" shaped building. The façade, 120 metres long, is distinguished by asymmetrical tiers, treatment rooms with projecting balconies, symmetrically grouped in pairs, cantilevered entrance canopies, a large forecourt punctuated by large double arches. The three wings are articulated around a double axis based on two semicircular entrances and surmounted by a sculptural conical chimney. The beauty of the building still lies in the dynamic contrast created by the opposition between the rectilinear and curved forms. The decoration of the chapel was frescoed by Angel Zarraga. Listed as a Historic Monument, the Martel de Janville is also labelled "20th Century Heritage". W 190 cm, D 67 cm, H 102 cm, SH 45 cm Price per unit
