About this vintage design furniture
Designed in the mid-1950s by Rolf Rastad and Adolf Relling the Rock ‘n’ rest chair was designed in Norway for Arnestad Bruk, and was an instant success, imported into the UK to be retailed by Gimson & Slater. They feature an ingenious reclining mechanism controlled by a lever under the right hand side which allows the chair to be reclined to a number of preset angles, or as it is spring mounted, allowed to rock. This pair of chairs have recently been professionally reupholstered with new foam and pure wool ‘puppytooth’ grey fabric. They have solid oak frames with a teak cap running across the top of each of the arms.
