Vintage carved brass sailboat signed Curtis Jeré, 1976

Gorgeous Big signed brass sailboat in perfect condition by Curtis Jeré, made in California in 1976. This beauty can be hung on the wall or displayed standing. Measures: H 104 x W 120 x L 20 cm. Although the name Curtis Jeré is known to many as the creator of the exuberant and eccentric modern design of the 1960s and 1970s, relatively few people know that it is a pseudonym for the design team of Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels. Together, they created some of the most striking and vibrant furniture and decorative objects of their time, from sculptures to dynamically framed mirrors to lighting and wall decorations. New Yorkers Freiler and Fels had collaborated for two decades on lines of small gems before launching a design firm called Artisan House in 1964. They combined variations of their names to create an artistic persona - sometimes shortened to C. Jeré; the "last name" is pronounced with an upward inflection: jhayr-EH - who stood behind large-scale decorative metal pieces marked by semi-abstract petal shapes with burnt and brazed edges. Fels was responsible for the design and Freiler, known for his handiwork, was the production manager. Since then, the two men's eclectic work has captivated decorative art collectors and interior designers. Curtis Jeré's work exhibits a sense of playfulness and curiosity, while drawing on themes such as flowers, discs, geometric shapes and animal figures. Freiler and Fels had a masterful ability to work.
